“The Stars are back at the Riviera Hotel!”
The stars are back at the Riviera Hotel and they are all in ONE MAN- Greg London, at Greg London’s Icons show! I was invited to the grand opening VIP night for Greg London’s Icons pre-show cocktail reception, to see the show, and attend the after party at the Queen Victoria Pub. What a night!
I discussed Icons with Robert Vannucci, the President and Chief Operating Officer of the Riviera Hotel.
SZ: “It is very exciting and reminds me of old Las Vegas, I reviewed Sammy, Liberace, and all the shows.”
Vanucci agreed, “This is part of the tradition at the Riviera. We still consider ourselves as part of the old Las Vegas that we portray and our customers continue to come back time and time again.”
SZ, “Back in the 80’s and 90’s the Riviera had all of the stars and big names.”
Robert felt, “Yes, the big stars appeared at the Riviera Hotel, anybody you could think of played here. You can see the pictures of all of the stars on the walls around our showrooms.
Since Danny Gans passed away, there has been a vacuum and Greg has the opportunity to fill the vacuum. Greg is talented enough and works his a** off on stage, the guy is really something. Once people see Greg, they will come back. He is going to help us bring old Las Vegas back. Greg does a lot of impressions. It is unbelievable, Greg changes all the time, constantly adding new impressions to the show so if you saw him once, come back again because he is going to add some new stuff too.
Greg goes into a character from the very first note until the very end of the song. There is a lot of other impersonators that lose it somewhere through the song almost singing in their own voice. Greg has a unique ability to carry it all the way through and enough talent to do many performers so he is constantly changing it and provides a level of entertainment that is unique. We had a chance to see Greg perform in Reno and that is one of the reasons we wanted him here in Las Vegas. I think everyone will be extremely surprised. We are very, very glad to have him here.”
The excitement built as we all made our way into the showroom to see Greg perform when the audience immediately became fans after the first 15 minutes. I was taking photos of the show while making notes for my review. (The review will appear soon.)
Following Icons, Greg walked the red carpet to his after party where we had a chance for my interview.
Greg commented, “This is a dream come true. I love being at the Riviera and am having the greatest time of my life with this show. I did 45 impressions tonight and changed about 30 times with everything from Ozzie Osborne to Tony Bennett but it is a whole new show, not like your grandpa’s impressions show.
This show has a story, dancers, a live band and I am really, really honored. I love the audience. That is what it is all about the people. My job is to entertain and that is what I do.
I loved Reno and before that London’s West end, so here we are in Las Vegas and I am the new guy in town and I am going to give it 100%.
We are bringing the stars back to the Riviera from Dean Martin to all of my other impressions. This is what I was born to do. I am just part of the action and I am having a great, great time. We are proud to be at the Riviera Hotel.”
After tasting the appetizers at both parties, seeing friends and meeting a lot of people,
Greg London’s Icons show appears at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, from Wednesday to Sunday, at 7 pm.
