Thought I’d shift gears a bit and write about a wonderful Sunday last month.  Delight’s Hot Springs in Tecopa, CA is about 90 minutes from Vegas.  Well, maybe closer to 2 hours but well worth the trip.  It’s a funky little town with natural hot springs running under it.  Delight’s Hot Springs Resort was built in the 1930′s and looks like it was.  The cabins are very rustic on the outside and the grounds are nothing fancy.   Travel out on Highway 160 until you reach Tecopa Road/Old Spanish Trail.  You will then travel about 34 miles in the middle of nowhere.  I can assure you that there will be no mistaking that you are in the middle of the desert.  You are approaching the Southern Tip of Death Valley so a word of caution, make a trek to Delight’s Hot Springs BEFORE it gets too hot.  If you find yourself wondering if you will ever actually get to Tecopa, have no fear, you’ll know it when you get there.  Follow the signs to Delight’s Hot Springs Resort.

When you make your pilgrimage out to the mineral hot springs bring the following with you; a big bathrobe (they sell a lush long soft terry robe when you get there – I paid $40 and it said it was reduced from $125).  I have no idea if its ever really $125 but it is absolutely worth the $40.  Bring towels, water and a cooler of anything you might want to snack on.  If you enjoying reading, bring a book.  Here’s how it works, the baths are private pool houses, they have four of them.  Thirty minutes each time you go, then you sit out in the courtyard (yes, in your robe) and then you can go back in to the bath.  There are showers in the bath area.

Cost to enjoy the baths, $10 per person per day.  If you stay over you have 24/7 use of the baths.  I imagine its lovely out there at night with all the stars.  We might make an overnight visit sometime. Pack some cheese, wine, fruit and a baguette. Yum. Tough seeing those stars with the lights of Vegas shining all the time.  It was incredibly relaxing to sit in the sun after the mineral bath which by the way, is very hot so go in slowly.  And ladies, maybe don’t shave your legs that morning like I did – maybe the night before.

When you’ve had your fill of soaking and sitting outside, head over to Shoshone, CA to the Famous Crowbar Cafe.   You will be going out of Delight’s to the right and heading up the road just a bit.  No worries, you will head back to Vegas by way of Pahrump instead of back the way you came.  The Crowbar is cool and the town is tiny.  Had great burgers, sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed the peacefulness and quaintness of it all.  Once again, you will see that you are entering the tip of Death Valley – it will be warm there in late Spring and Summer.

Enjoy your trip.  Would love some feedback.  Happy Soaking!
