What: Easter Seals Southern Nevada is launching its weatherization training program. A mock home has been built inside Easter Seals’ North Las Vegas Facility where workers are learning how to build solar screens, make water heater blankets and conduct blower door testing. Through this facility and the weatherization program, unemployed workers are receiving valuable tools and training to help them regain their place in the workforce. The overall goal of weatherization is to reduce energy cost for families and Easter Seals’ goal is to produce trained individuals who are in the community weatherizing homes on a daily basis.
President Barack Obama has proposed a $6 billion energy-efficiency program for homes to help unemployed construction workers get back to work. A shortage in trained workers able to take on the complicated project and the need for participating contractors to be trained, tested and accredited by the Building Performance Institute makes training facilities like Easter Seals’ essential.
