The National Home Builders International Builders’ Show returned to Las Vegas Jan 19-22 and was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The building industry trade only show offered more than 175 educational sessions, exhibit floor, Remodelers Central headquarters, the multifamily and condo meeting area and seminars geared specifically for the 55-plus segment of the population. There were also Meet the Experts sessions in a question and answer format.
Celebrity events included designers Paul DiMeo and Tracy Hutson of the television show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and Bill and Martin Gramatica, former National Football League kickers and brothers, who discussed their latest building projects and signed autographs.
Another aspect of the show was the investors and financial institutions onsite to discuss troubled/distressed assets refinancing and investments with attendees along with possible solutions.
Jan. 20 was declared Green Day at the show to acknowledge how the green movement is affecting the building with a keynote speech and sessions about incorporating green features in today’s building industry. Companies such as Marvin Windows and Doors produces certified Energy Star products that are eco-friendly and energy efficient along with their extensive recycling and reusing resources programs. The New American Home 2010, being constructed using NAHB’s green building standard and Department of Energy’s ENERGY STAR® program, was not completed in time for tours during the show. It is the first time in the 27-year history of the program that the home was completed on time, although it is reported to be 75 percent built.
NAHB prepared a special exhibition area on the convention floor to showcase products used in the home.
IBS will move to Orlando, Fla. in 2011 and NAHB reports on their Web site, nabh.org, that the show will return to Las Vegas in 2013.
