United Way’s Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada is in need of approximately 200 volunteers for their “Earn It Keep It Save It” collaborative project, providing free tax preparation to those who earned less than $49,000 in 2009. Through a generous grant from the IRS and funding from local partners, United Way will establish and run 42 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites across the Valley. These VITA sites will be equipped with IRS-certified volunteers who help to put money back into the hands of those that need it most.
Volunteers are needed from Jan. 15, 2010 through April 15, 2010 to serve as tax preparers, greeters, quality reviewers, and site coordinators. No experience is necessary, as volunteers will receive free tax law and e-file training, IRS certification, and the ability participate in convenient training locations throughout Southern Nevada.
Last tax season, United Way helped more than 4,500 Southern Nevada families claim over $5 million in tax refunds, including more than $2 million in federal tax credits.
