Last night I had a strange dream. I was passing the Megabucks machine in my favorite Las Vegas Casino and paused to insert $3.00. Suddenly alarms sounded, bells rang and I was 34 million dollars richer. At last I was in a position to fulfill my lifelong ambition. The Secret Island of Doctor Shield. I got the idea after watching Michael Jackson leaving his Dubai hideaway a few years ago! How many multi millionaires are there out there at any one time that need total security and the opportunity to complete disappear. Enter the Secret Island of Doctor Shield.
A totally secured secret location that even our most efficient security and intelligence services couldn’t locate. A secret city somewhere on our planet that would provide a permanent hideaway for those in need,
At first I thought an island perhaps off Australia’s Great Barrier Reef or near the remote Pacific islands of Fiji or Tonga. With aerial and satellite surveillance it would be necessary to have the Secret City below ground. Perhaps beneath a sprawling 18-hole golf course that the inhabitances could use when they needed to come up for air ( I have a certain resident in mind LOL). I thought of the sprawling retail areas of Japan’s underground rail system. And then I remembered the beautiful golf courses in the Nevada and Arizona Deserts. What about the Yucca Mountain project…easy to secure. …sort of like Dream Lake or what most people know as area 51. A city beneath the desert perhaps?
These suburb apartment complexes would be the ultimate in self-contained comfort and luxury. Access would be via underground transportation or heliports. Shopping along with most other services would be web based, something a few years ago would have been unthinkable. With the recent announcement of video wallpaper it is possible to create any interior environment from a shopping mall to the Australian Outback.
Operation would be similar to the planned residential cruise ships at present under construction. Outstanding amongst these is the magnificent $650 million Magellan Residential Cruise Ship. Residents of our secret city however would be completely lost to the outside world. Surrounded by an electronic and physical security blanket, the residents could relax in the certain knowledge that their whereabouts and access were unknown to the outside world. Units could be leased or purchased outright. Staff, like those of the infamous area 51 would be flown in under complete secrecy.
Who would be eligible for such secure protection and how would perspective residents qualify? A resident’s appointed committee of attorneys would be elected to vet perspective inhabitants and would exclude known or convicted villains charged with an offense involving violent or particularly heinous crimes.
Eligible prospects like Burnie Madoff & Ronnie Biggs come immediately to mind. Ronnie you may remember was credited as being the brains behind the Great Train Robbery that took place in England in 1963. Their $4 million plus haul would have today been valued at over $80 million today, and apart from a bump on the head for the poor train driver, no one suffered except the insurance company.
Ronnie escaped from prison and settled in Australia. He later moved to Brazil where he married and fought extradition until ill health and medical expenses forced him back to his native land to finish his 30 year sentence in May of 2001.
Frede Møller-Kristensen, an employee of the Danish Royal Library, pulled off one of the world’s largest book thefts stealing over 3200 historical books valued at over $50 million! He passed away in 2003 after selling the most valuable items at auction. His family were eventually caught and a large number of the books recovered. Frede and his family would have been welcomed to the Secret Island of Dr. Shield.
My favorite robbery of all time involved three master criminals who masterminded one of the most amazing thefts of all time. In 1855 $24,000 in gold bars were loaded on a train from London and shipped to Europe. On arrival the boxes were discovered to contain bags of lead shot. Needless to say these outstanding individuals would find safe haven at the Secret Island of Dr. Shield.
When it comes to deciding just who wouldn’t be welcome, former Ugandan Dictator Idi Amin ranks high on the list. He slaughtered hundreds of thousands of the Uganda population and is said to have admitted to tasting human flesh. Not anyone’s choice of a next-door neighbor.
Ferdinand Marcos would be the the sort of perspective resident however that could swing the panel either way. Provided that there wasn’t a Philippine attorney on the admittance panel – he’d probably make it in. Come to think of it he would be great, as he would have needed more space than anyone to house his wife’s shoe collection!
So if you’ve just smuggled in $50 million in diamonds from your back yard in Africa and are in fear of being discovered by DeBeers; or perhaps the wife who’s father left you a fortune has just discovered your playboy weekend companion and is in search of blood, come to think of it you might even be the world’s number one golfer… give me a call.
