WHO:
Peter Max, American icon and internationally recognized Pop Artist, is well known for his paintings of iconic Americana. His psychedelic, multi-dimensional paintings of historical landmarks in American culture have maintained their signature style and flare throughout his multi-decade career. Max most recently developed a form of expressionism, which critics termed, “Neo-Fauvist,” because of the bold colors, and began a series of works that pay homage to the masters. These works include: paintings of the Mona Lisa; portraits of Van Gogh, Vlaminck, Toulouse de Lautrec, and Gauguin; etching homage to Picasso, and other works. Max’s art has appeared on everything from a Boeing 777 Continental jumbo jet, the 1999 Woodstock stage, to a giant mural at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He has designed numerous magazine covers including Newsweek and LIFE Magazine.
